In each stage of the CPS framework, methods are suggested to support the thinking skills inherent to that stage, and there is ongoing discussion in the literature on new tools and methods that could be included in the classic CPS toolkit (see Switalski, 2003; Kalina, 2017). Characteristic of the methods recommended for the Clarify stage are divergent and convergent techniques like brainstorming, brainwriting, and highlighting (Creative Education Foundation, 2016). In this interactive breakout worksession, participants will explore how three hands-on ‘making’ methods from design thinking can support the critical first step of vision exploration, using imaginative thinking through drawing and collage techniques to “create a clear image of the desired outcome” (Switalksi, 2003, p. 42).
Key Takeaways- A practical set of methods to ground vision exploration in a hands-on, visual-not-verbal approach
- An understanding of the role story plays in vision exploration
- The experience of using design thinking to support the thinking skills involved with clarification
